Do schools hire full time online faculty?

Posted by virtualprof on December 30, 2007

When I first started teaching online 7 years ago, it was hard to find a job and impossible to find anything full time online with bennies. NOW …. there are colleges hiring full time online faculty with bennies. True, not many. But the number is growing.

To my knowledge the following institutions do offer some full time online positions withbenefits:

PhD needed for WGU, Walden, Capella, NCU

No PhD needed for Kaplan and ECPI. I heard a rumor that Rasmussen is considering hiring some full time online faculty in the next year or so. If you know of others, please leave a comment here.

Also some state community colleges are now hiring full time online faculty who do not live in the immediate geographic area of the college (phd not necessary for community college full time online positions).

There are more than these and the number is growing all the time.
